What is Google Analytics?
Google Analytics is a tool that allows you to track what’s going on on your website. It tells you things like:
- How people got there (was it from SEO? Social media? Paid advertising?)
- How long they spent there (or how quickly they left)
- What countries, ages, and genders are accessing your site
- Your most popular pages
- And much, much more.
All the data in Google Analytics help your business understand how people are using your website and whether it is effective. Remember, your website is the heart of your digital marketing. It’s also your number-one salesperson. People will often ‘meet’ your website before they’ve even met you, so it’s important to make sure it engages and converts them (i.e.: encourages them to buy or enquire).

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to migrate to Google Analytics 4 from Google Analytics
Step one – create a new Google Analytics 4 property
To get started, you’ll need to create a new Google Analytics 4 property. You can do this by logging in to your Google Analytics account, clicking on the “Admin” tab, and selecting “Create Property” under the “Property” column.
Step two – set up data streams
Once you’ve created your new property, you’ll need to set up data streams for your website, mobile app, or any other platform you want to track. This can be done by clicking on the “Data Streams” option under the “Property” column and then clicking on the “Add Stream” button.
Step three – install the GA4 tracking code
After setting up your data streams, you’ll need to install the GA4 tracking code on your website or app. This can be done by copying the tracking code from the “Data Streams” section of your GA4 property and then pasting it into the appropriate place in your website or app’s code.
Step four – set up events
GA4 uses a new event-based model for tracking user behaviour, so you’ll need to set up events to track the actions users take on your website or app. This can be done by clicking on the “Events” option under the “Property” column and then clicking on the “Create Event” button.
Step five – migrate your existing data
If you have historical data in your old Google Analytics property that you want to keep, you’ll need to migrate it to your new GA4 property. This can be done by clicking on the “Data Import” option under the “Property” column and then selecting “Google Analytics” as the data source.
Step six – verify your setup
Once you’ve set up your GA4 property, data streams, tracking code, events, and data migration, you’ll need to verify that everything is working correctly. You can do this by clicking on the “Realtime” option under the “Property” column and then checking to see if data is being tracked and displayed correctly.
Last step – monitor and analyze your data
After verifying that your setup is working correctly, you can start monitoring and analyzing your data using the new GA4 interface. This will allow you to gain insights into how users are interacting with your website or app and make data-driven decisions to improve your business.
